1st National Medical Internship Meeting: An Initiative Led by AMSA Fellow Dr. Yubia Amaya Guel

On June 4–5, 2026, the 1st National Medical Internship Meeting: The General Practitioner as an Agent of Change was held in Mexico. The initiative was led by Dr. Yubia Amaya Guel, an AMSA Fellow, with the goal of strengthening the education and professional development of healthcare students and professionals.

The meeting was born from a clear vision: recognizing the fundamental role that primary care plays in people’s health. In a healthcare system where prevention, early detection, and timely intervention can significantly influence patient outcomes, strengthening the preparation of those working at the primary care level is essential.

Designed for medical students, medical interns, social service interns, nursing students, general practitioners, specialists, and other healthcare professionals, the meeting provided a space for knowledge exchange, continuing medical education, and the development of clinical competencies.

Through this initiative, Dr. Guel brought together professionals committed to the continuous improvement of medical practice and the training of future generations of healthcare providers, promoting a collaborative approach to addressing current healthcare challenges in Mexico.
