OMI-MEX HSS Seminar in Bone and Joint Surgery
Surgical Techniques and Case Discussions in Collaboration with Hospital for Special Surgery
From October 26 to 28, 2026, the OMI-MEX HSS Seminar in Bone and Joint Surgery took place in collaboration with Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) and under the direction of Dr. Mathias Bostrom, MD, FACS. The seminar brought together fellows and faculty to review advances and challenges in the surgical management of various musculoskeletal conditions.
Surgical Approaches to Different Clinical Challenges
The program included sessions on knee and hip joint replacements, as well as treatment options for ankle arthrosis and instability. Topics also included shoulder instability, knee ligament injuries, and surgical options for various pediatric orthopedic conditions.
Specific topics included Achilles tendon injuries, patellar dislocations, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, and complications of arthroplasty. These sessions provided an opportunity to explore diagnostic and treatment options in greater depth, as well as the factors that influence surgical decision-making.
Case Presentations and Academic Exchange
The fellows’ clinical case presentation workshops were an important component of the seminar. These sessions provided opportunities to discuss surgical scenarios with faculty, analyze different approaches, and compare perspectives on specific clinical challenges.
The program also included a session on medical leadership, extending the discussion beyond surgical procedures to address other competencies relevant to professional development.
The participation of Hospital for Special Surgery faculty, together with fellows from Latin America, fostered an exchange of knowledge and experience among professionals who face clinical challenges in different settings.
