AMSA–Fundación IMSS: Research Seminar: Artificial Intelligence and Health Decision-Making

AMSA, in collaboration with Fundación IMSS, held the “Artificial Intelligence and Health Decision-Making: Data Management and Research” seminar, an academic meeting that brought together researchers and health professionals from different institutions to examine the role of data and artificial intelligence in research and health decision-making.
Over two days, the program explored different perspectives on the use of artificial intelligence, from its application in research and evidence generation to its integration into health systems and public policy. Topics included the use of data for strategic decision-making, data governance, ethics and public trust, as well as predictive models and artificial intelligence tools for precision medicine.
The seminar featured specialists and researchers from institutions including the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), National Institute of Genomic Medicine (INMEGEN), National Institute of Perinatology (INPer), National Institute of Pediatrics (INP) and the National Medical Center Siglo XXI, among others.
One of the program's central themes was the integration of artificial intelligence into the research process. Through academic sessions and practical cases, participants explored topics such as research problem formulation, data use and analysis, project design and implementation, as well as evaluation in real-world settings.
As part of this work, participants presented and discussed artificial intelligence-based projects, with researchers serving as panelists. Among them were the recipients of the 2026 AMSA Award for Impact in Healthcare, who had the opportunity to present their projects and perspectives within this academic exchange.
The program also addressed one of the key challenges surrounding these technologies: harnessing the potential of artificial intelligence while preserving the judgment and responsibility of health professionals. Discussions on ethics, data governance and the role of human judgment provided a comprehensive perspective on the use of these technologies.
Through this seminar, AMSA continues to create spaces that connect research, innovation and continuing medical education, providing health professionals with opportunities to engage with new tools and knowledge that can contribute to addressing current challenges in clinical practice and health systems.
