For three days, Mexico City became a meeting point for specialists from across Latin America participating in the OMI-MEX Seminar in Pediatric Pulmonology, a program designed to deepen the comprehensive approach to respiratory diseases in pediatric patients.
The seminar featured faculty from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and the Medical University of Graz, who shared their clinical and academic expertise in an environment that encouraged the exchange of knowledge among colleagues from different countries across the region.
Throughout the program, lectures, interactive workshops, fellows’ case presentations, and hands-on training sessions were combined to approach each topic from a practical and applied perspective. Key areas of focus included cystic fibrosis and its pulmonary manifestations, mechanical ventilation, lung malformations, obstructive sleep apnea, foreign body aspiration, and diagnostic and interventional bronchoscopy, as well as the management of acute and chronic respiratory diseases in pediatric patients.
One of the seminar’s central components was the active participation of fellows, who presented clinical cases that served as the foundation for academic discussion. These sessions created opportunities to compare approaches, share experiences, and enrich clinical decision-making through the different perspectives and realities represented across Latin America.
The hands-on training sessions provided an essential space for practical learning, allowing participants to further develop diagnostic skills and strengthen their approach to managing complex conditions in clinical practice.
Beyond the academic content, the seminar also fostered meaningful connections among specialists from different countries, encouraging the development of professional networks and ongoing collaboration beyond the classroom.
The OMI-MEX Seminar in Pediatric Pulmonology is part of AMSA’s continuing medical education program, which seeks to strengthen specialist training across the region through high-level academic experiences and international collaboration.
